Listening to 90.3 the Core on the Internet

All you need is a computer with an internet connection to hear us from anywhere in the world.

What is it? Is it easy?

Yes. On most computers it's as simple as clicking one of the links below.

mp3 Streams
24k Mono [pls] [m3u] [asx] [Flash Player] [Popup Window]
80k Mono [pls] [m3u] [asx] [Flash Player] [Popup Window]
128k Stereo [pls] [m3u] [asx] [Flash Player] [Popup Window]

aacPlus Streams
16k Mono [pls] [m3u] [asx]
64k Stereo [pls] [m3u] [asx]

What is aacPlus?

aacPlus is a compressed audio format that sounds as good as mp3 at half the bitrate.
So, the 64k aacPlus stream sounds as good as the 128k mp3 stream, but it uses half as much data.
Why should you care? Well, it helps keep the internet tubes clear so more people can listen.

If you're having buffering issues with the 128k stream, try one of the aacPlus streams.
aacPlus is compatible with Winamp versions 5.08 and newer, and VLC Media Player.
It's also compatible with Windows Media Player if you install the Free AAC+ Plugin.
For more information about aacPlus, check out Dolby Laboratories.

Common Problems

Problem: I'm using AOL and I can't connect to the stream.
Solution: If you're using the browser inside AOL, try opening another browser such as Internet Explorer and try again.

Problem: I can't connect to any of the streams when I'm at work, but I have no problem listening at home.
Solution: First make sure your computer has one of the supported players listed above. If you are getting an error such as "Unable to Connect" then your workplace probably has a firewall that is blocking your connection to our servers.

Problem: When I'm listening, the stream will suddenly go silent for a few seconds.
Solution: Check your internet connection. If you are using a wireless connection, try disabling it and using a wired connection to the internet. Even fast wireless connections can create enough delay to cause a problem. If playing does not resume, press stop and then play. If it continues, try using a lower bitrate stream, like one of the aacPlus streams. If that does not solve the problem, then your internet connection may not be fast enough to support streaming media. Keep trying. This can happen at times of the day when internet traffic is heavy.

Problem: I have the latest version of Winamp but when I click the link for the AAC+ stream, another program opens and nothing happens.
Solution: In the playlist window, click the add button, then click add URL and paste this into the window:
http://thecore.fm/aac.m3u
Then click OK and double-click the new playlist entry (www.thecore.fm)
You can also paste this link into VLC Media Player. Click File, then Open Network Stream.

Problem: I'm connected to the stream, but all I hear is static.
Solution: That means there's a problem with one of our servers. Please report the problem to the email address at the bottom of this page.

Problem: Sometimes there's an extended pause between songs!
Solution: It happens. Just stay tuned. More great core radio is on the way.

Problem: I still can't get any of the links to work on my computer.
Solution: Ok, don't panic. Send an email to the address listed at the bottom of this page. Be sure to include as many details as possible about the problem you are having.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this streaming thing? Is it like internet radio?
Yes. 90.3 the Core is a radio station based in Piscataway, New Jersey that you can also hear on the internet.

How does it work?
Your computer talks to our state-of-the-art servers and says, "Hello. I'd like to hear 90.3 the Core." Your computer then takes that stream of data and turns it back into beautiful music.

What do I have to give you in return for this wonderful service?
Nothing. It's free. Just listen and enjoy. If you like what you hear, be sure to
send the DJ an instant message.

Can I link directly to your streams from my website/blog/profile/etc?
Please do, but if you link directly to our streams, then please also link back to www.thecore.fm in case someone has trouble using the link you provided and needs help connecting.
