Each year, 90.3 The Core attends the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Conference to learn more about college radio, meet other students, and gain insight from professionals in the field. IBS, formed in 1940, supports college and high school media organizations and is entirely run by a team of passionate volunteers. More information about IBS is available at ibsradio.org.
High school and college stations from across the country came together at Sheraton Times Square in NYC over the course of two days to attend a wide range of panels and the award ceremonies. Members of our Executive Staff and DJs took the train into the city and immediately immersed themselves in the world of radio, attending panels like 'Fair Use: When Can I Use Copyrighted Material?,' 'New Developments in Generative AI, Technology and Music,' and 'Working with Station and School Alumni,' among many others throughout the day. As the webmaster, I attended panels focused on station promotion, outreach, and concert coverage.
To wrap up the conference, IBS hosts an awards ceremony where schools, DJs, and faculty can be nominated for awards across various categories. This year, the Core became finalists for three awards: Best Social Media, Best Show Promo (Cup of Joe), and for the third year in a row, Best College/University Radio Station (More Than 10,000 Students)! We are thrilled to have received these nominations and are incredibly proud to be considered among the best college stations in the world for yet another year. While we did not win, we are excited for what's to come next year as we continue to grow!
As always, we had an amazing time in NYC. If you're interested in seeing more from our trip to the IBS Conference, check out our Instagram post!
