Indie Rock singer Phoebe Bridgers’ soft, poignant, and striking vocals filled the shore as fans sang along at her sold out Stone Pony Summer Stage show in Asbury Park. Crowds wrapped around a number of blocks as early as 1 am to see Bridgers for her Reunion Tour, some bearing the heat for as long as 20 hours. Once the lines finally piled into the venue, you’d find more crowds of dedicated fans decorating the boardwalk, beach, and parking lot, the Summer Stage not nearly big enough to contain her rapidly growing fanbase.
Bridgers’ setlist opened with fan favorites from her albums Stranger in the Alps and Punisher, featuring “Motion Sickness,” “DVD Menu,” “Garden Song,” and “Kyoto.” She also sang her newest track titled “Sidelines,” which was released earlier this year in April. The lyrics break away from Bridgers’ previous themes of isolation and depression, expressing her newfound peace, comfort, and courage she feels through love. She closed her powerful setlist with “I Know the End,” welcoming the crowd to join in on a cathartic release through a build-up of apocalyptic lyrics and a dissonance of screams, tying a bow to the Punisher Album, the song itself, and the seaside show under the light of a glowing full moon.
